Universities Could Support County Data Evaluations

San Diego County News CenterDirect To YouCounty Supervisors voted this week to boost the work of the County’s Office of Evaluation, Performance and Analytics by allowing it to use future contracts with universities to support it with research and technical help.

During a recent meeting, County Chief Evaluation Officer Ricardo Basurto-Dávila shared that his team has already contributed expertise to various projects, including the January storms, the County’s Wage Theft Dashboard, and Housing Blueprint Survey. Basurto-Dávila also mentioned the office's plans to present evaluations and findings on several important projects in the coming years.

Haruna Feldman, the County Chief Data Officer, highlighted the office's intention to utilize modern technology systems, including artificial intelligence and advanced analytical tools, to enhance how the County connects its services to clients.

Basurto-Dávila further stated that the office has provided training to County employees in conducting effective evaluation studies and has presented a Strategic Research Plan to the Board, outlining key projects and research questions for the upcoming years.

The County's Office of Evaluation, Performance, and Analytics was established in 2021 to leverage modern analytics in analyzing the County’s data to improve programs, services, and policies. The office aims to utilize partnerships with universities to further enhance its research capabilities and provide valuable insights for the County's initiatives.
