Assembly Republicans announced on March 16 that they will introduce a special floor motion to force a vote on AJR-28, a resolution urging Congress to pass the Homeland Security appropriations bill and provide funding for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The move aims to put California lawmakers on record regarding their support for TSA funding and ensuring that airport security personnel are paid. The issue has gained urgency as delays in passing the federal Homeland Security appropriations bill have resulted in TSA agents across the country working without pay.
“It is inexcusable that California Democrats remain silent as tens of thousands of TSA agents go without pay because counterparts in Congress are playing political games with the nation’s safety,” said Assemblymember Carl DeMaio.
The proposed resolution highlights concerns about national security and worker compensation during ongoing federal budget negotiations. Lawmakers will be asked to publicly state their position on this matter through the upcoming vote.
The outcome of this legislative action may influence how quickly Congress acts on the appropriations bill, potentially affecting both airport operations and employee welfare nationwide.
