San Diego State University’s women’s tennis team is set to face Cal Poly at the Aztec Tennis Center on Friday, March 6, with play starting at 10:30 a.m.

The Aztecs are currently ranked 22nd nationally and have achieved a 7-1 record this season. They are on a six-match winning streak, including a recent victory over No. 19 San Diego in a close 4-3 contest. This ranking marks the highest for the program since the 1992-93 season.

The win against San Diego was SDSU’s second over a ranked opponent this year; earlier in the season, they defeated No. 68 Sacramento State by a score of 5-2.

Cal Poly arrives with a 6-3 overall record and is undefeated in Big West conference play at 2-0. The Mustangs have won their last five matches, including victories over Saint Mary’s, No. 74 Loyola Marymount, CSUN, Santa Clara, and San Jose State.

SDSU has found consistent success in doubles competition, claiming the doubles point in seven out of eight matches so far. The pair of Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley is ranked 42nd nationally with a top-court record of 5-1 and an overall mark of 16-3. Their performance at San Diego earned Chan the Mountain West Player of the Week award and Turley Freshman of the Week honors. Another key duo, Jayna Clemens and Ninon Martinache, holds a perfect court two record (7-0) as part of their ongoing ten-match winning streak.

This upcoming match will be the tenth meeting between SDSU and Cal Poly; SDSU leads the all-time series 9-0 and won their previous encounter in February 2022 by a score of 7-0.

After Friday’s match, SDSU will begin its conference schedule by hosting Fresno State on March 13 at home.
