Carl DeMaio, a political commentator and activist in California, raised concerns over state and local governance in a series of posts on X between May 9 and May 10, 2026. DeMaio addressed topics ranging from the escalating costs of California’s high-speed rail project to alleged irregularities in San Diego’s water billing system.

On May 9, DeMaio criticized the state’s high-speed rail initiative, stating “The cost of the CA high speed rail boondoggle gets much worse, with estimates showing the grand total as 7 times higher than originally expected. We’ve been shining a light on this, but CA Dems now want to pass a bill to hide this from you – WATCH: https://t.co/Q57FZsP4Pm https://t.co/IuV6qmoAKH”. The high-speed rail project has faced ongoing scrutiny for delays and budget overruns since its inception. According to recent reports, projected costs have continued to climb well beyond initial estimates.

Later that day, DeMaio addressed Republican voting behavior in California’s elections. He wrote “Many Republicans in CA feel safer waiting until Election Day to cast their ballot. However, their votes are actually put at risk under CA’s broken election system. Here’s why you should vote early if you’re a Republican – WATCH! https://t.co/xLVhLxivr8”. Concerns about election integrity and ballot handling have been frequent points of debate among party activists and officials across the state.

On May 10, DeMaio alleged misconduct within San Diego’s municipal government regarding water rates: “More corruption at San Diego City Hall. Our CA-DOGE team just confirmed that residents are being forced to pay a DOUBLE water rate for the Toilet to Tap water and city politicians are trying to deceive rate payers by putting half the expense on the sewer bill. Illegal!”. Water pricing policies in Southern California have often drawn public attention due to ongoing drought conditions and infrastructure investments.

DeMaio has been active in regional politics as an advocate for fiscal transparency and reform initiatives throughout California.
