County Animal Services announced on May 21 that it is caring for dozens of animals rescued from a property in Julian, following a collaborative effort with the San Diego Humane Society and several other shelters and rescue groups. The rescue operation took place on May 1, when hundreds of animals were removed from conditions where they were not receiving proper care.
The event highlights ongoing concerns about animal welfare and the need for coordinated responses to situations involving neglect. County Animal Services said it received several farm animals among those rescued, providing them with shelter and medical attention.
On May 15, the Humane Farming Association transported two pigs, twelve goats, one sheep, and several chickens requiring ongoing medical care from the County’s Bonita shelter. The organization used a specialized trailer and transport team that traveled from Minnesota to assist in relocating these animals. “Animal welfare is something that needs every single one of us to be a part of,” said Dr. Brie Sarvis, director and chief veterinarian. “We are only better when we work together.” Over the following two days, additional ducks, turkeys, geese, donkeys, miniature horses, a mule and a horse bonded with one of the minis were also moved by HFA.
All transported animals arrived safely at their new location dedicated to lifelong farm animal care. More information can be found on the San Diego Humane Society’s Julian Rescue page.
