San Diego State University athletes competed in the opening day of the 2026 Mountain West Outdoor Championships on May 14, participating in several track and field events.

The championships are significant for San Diego State as they provide an opportunity for athletes to advance to finals and set personal records. The event also allows the team to compete against other universities in the conference.

Jenna Fee Feyerabend led the Aztecs in the heptathlon, finishing first in shot put with a throw of 13.77 meters. She also placed second in both high jump and 100-meter hurdles, ending her day with a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Feyerabend’s total score of 3,480 points puts her ahead by 281 points over her closest competitor.

In other events, Aji Mbye won heat four of the women’s 200-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 23.29 seconds and finished third overall, securing a spot in Saturday’s finals. Freshman Kelia Bentham achieved a personal best time of 23.59 seconds and will be the only freshman competing in that final round. In the women’s 400-meter hurdles preliminaries, Anna Mager posted a new personal best at 58.44 seconds—the fastest qualifying time—while Lidia Major also set a personal record at 59.87 seconds; both advanced to Saturday’s finals.

Day two is scheduled to begin at 10:20 a.m., with Aztec athletes competing across multiple disciplines including long jump, pole vault, distance runs, and additional preliminary sprints and hurdles heats.
