The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department announced on Mar. 17 that a man was killed and another injured following a shooting in the 3800 block of E. Mission Road in Fallbrook on the evening of March 16. Deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at approximately 8:00 p.m., where they found two adult males with traumatic injuries.
Despite lifesaving efforts by deputies and emergency medical personnel, one individual died from a gunshot wound at the scene. The second victim, who was also shot, was taken to a local hospital and has since been released. Michael Burke, identified as a resident of Fallbrook, was arrested for murder and attempted murder and booked into the Vista Detention Facility. Authorities said the incident followed an argument between those involved.
The identities of both the deceased and surviving victims are being withheld pending confirmation and notification of next of kin. Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives have taken over the investigation, interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence to determine what led to the incident. “Based on information obtained thus far, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the community,” according to Lieutenant Juan Marquez.
