San Diego baseball lost 11-5 to No. 18 Oregon State on March 14 before a crowd of 1,431 at Fowler Park. The Toreros, now with a record of 7-11, faced an early eight-run deficit but managed to score four unanswered runs in the later innings.

The game was notable for San Diego’s persistence despite trailing by a wide margin. Jayden Lobliner scored in the third inning on an RBI single from Andrew Gauna, who finished the night going 3-for-4 with a walk. In the seventh inning, the Toreros responded to three more Oregon State runs by scoring four times themselves. Lobliner hit a two-RBI double, Gabe Springer added an RBI single, and CJ Moran doubled down the right field line to bring home another run.

On the pitching side, Logan Piper provided relief out of the bullpen before Christian Garcia pitched a career-high three scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Freshman Lucas Shannon made his collegiate debut by striking out both hitters he faced in the seventh and pitching a scoreless eighth inning.

San Diego loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth but could not add any more runs. The team hit .500 with runners in scoring position and all five runs came with two outs. Notable performances included Connor Meidroth recording his fourth double of the season and scoring twice, Gauna achieving his second three-hit game this year, and Lobliner extending his team lead in hits to 27—tied for third-best in the West Coast Conference.

The Toreros will conclude their three-game series against Oregon State on Sunday afternoon at Fowler Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., and fans can watch live coverage on ESPN+.
