The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office released on March 13 a video from a deputy and officer-involved shooting that took place on February 18 in San Marcos. The release is part of the department’s stated commitment to transparency, public trust, and compliance with the law.

The incident is under investigation by the San Diego Police Department, following a Memorandum of Agreement signed in 2022. This agreement ensures that no agency investigates its own shooting incidents, adding an extra layer of transparency. “We are committed to transparency, public trust and compliance with the law,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

With the investigation ongoing, the San Diego Police Department has reviewed and approved the release of this critical incident video. The District Attorney’s Office will review the police investigation once it is complete. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Attorney’s Office are also monitoring developments in this case.
