San Diego County Sheriff’s Office responds to Islamic Center shooting in Clairemont

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said on May 18 it assisted the San Diego Police Department and other law enforcement partners in stabilizing an active shooter event at the Islamic Center of San Diego, located in the Clairemont area.

The incident has affected many people, prompting increased security measures and coordinated monitoring by local, state, and federal agencies. Regional law enforcement agencies are working together to ensure public safety during this ongoing situation.

“Our deepest condolences go to everyone affected by this tragedy. Regional law enforcement agencies train continuously for these events and stand united to ensure your safety. We are actively monitoring the situation alongside local, state, and federal partners. Out of an abundance of caution, deputies are increasing patrols at houses of worship throughout Sheriff’s jurisdiction,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

The statement also emphasized vigilance: “Your safety remains our absolute priority. Please stay vigilant and if you see something, say something. Report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 9-1-1.”
