The University of San Diego men’s tennis team, ranked No. 16 nationally, defeated No. 54 Memphis with a score of 6-1 on March 10 at the Hogan Tennis Center.
The match saw San Diego secure the doubles point after Adrien Berrut and Lambert Ruland, ranked No. 73 in doubles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, won their match on the main court. The deciding doubles match was clinched by Oliver Tarvet and Vincent Marysko, who prevailed in a tiebreaker to give San Diego an early lead.
In singles play, Neo Niedner put San Diego back ahead with a straight-set win after Memphis had evened the score. Tarvet followed with another victory, winning eight consecutive games across two sets. Ruland then secured the overall dual for San Diego with his own straight-set win on court five.
The teams played out all remaining matches. Manvydas Balciunas won his three-set contest after dropping the second set but recovering in the third. Stian Klaassen completed a comeback from a first-set loss and being down match point to win in three sets as well.
San Diego’s next scheduled match is against No. 29 Princeton at noon on Saturday, March 14.
