San Diego officials honor leaders for efforts against fentanyl crisis

San Diego County officials are set to recognize key leaders for their efforts in addressing the ongoing fentanyl crisis. Sheriff Kelly Martinez will host a commendation ceremony to honor County Supervisor Joel Anderson and California Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones for their leadership and support, including a $2 million investment aimed at combating illicit fentanyl throughout the county.

Sheriff Martinez stated that she will also express gratitude to law enforcement, government, and community partners for their collaborative work to keep dangerous drugs off local streets. “Great strides continue to be made in the battle against the fentanyl crisis in San Diego County,” said Martinez.

The event is scheduled for Friday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Technology and Information Center Media Room in Kearny Mesa. Media representatives are invited to attend, with parking reserved at the County Medical Examiner Office lot.

Speakers at the ceremony will include Sheriff Kelly Martinez, Supervisor Joel Anderson, Senate Minority Leader Brian Jones, and Special Agent in Charge James Nunnallee of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) San Diego office. Representatives from several local police departments—including those from San Diego, Chula Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad, La Mesa—and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) will also be present. The Volunteer Sheriff’s Patrol Honor Guard is scheduled to perform during the event.
