San Diego State University hosted the first Aztec Coastal Classic and Distance Carnival on March 13 at the SDSU Sports Deck, featuring athletes from over 11 institutions and more than 22 Aztecs competing.
The event marked the debut of several athletes for the 2026 season, including Mountain West Champions Jenna Fee Feyerabend and Jada Pierre. Feyerabend secured first place in both the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.14 seconds and the high jump by clearing 1.60 meters. Pierre won the 100-meter dash in her season debut, finishing in 11.48 seconds.
Other notable performances included Kelia Bentham, Olivia Hicks, and Shari Hurdman taking second, third, and fourth place respectively in the 200-meter dash. For many athletes such as Hurdman and Bentham, it was their official collegiate outdoor debut. In the 400-meter dash, Laraigh Allen finished first with a time of 54.76 seconds in her first collegiate outdoor race, while Aji Mbye also made her debut with a time of 56.70 seconds.
In field events, Isabella Nilsen vaulted to second place with a mark of 4.12 meters in pole vaulting, tying for twelfth best in program history. Freshman Alexandria Rogers placed third in long jump with a distance of 5.31 meters.
Distance runners also posted strong results: Sara Jones achieved a personal best of 4:30.93 in the 1500-meter run—just shy of entering SDSU’s all-time top ten—while Elliana Lomeli ran the second fastest freshman time for an outdoor debut at under four minutes forty seconds.
Looking ahead, San Diego State will continue training before traveling to UCLA for upcoming meets on March 27-28. Meanwhile, Xiamara Young is set to compete in triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14.
