The San Diego State University softball team lost to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas by a score of 6-3 on March 21. The game took place as part of Mountain West Conference play, with SDSU now holding a record of 17-13 overall and 2-3 in conference, while UNLV improved to 16-15 overall and 3-2 in the Mountain West.

This result is significant for both teams as they continue their campaigns within the conference. Early runs by UNLV set the tone for the game, putting pressure on SDSU throughout.

In the first inning, Lala Macario drew a walk for SDSU but was left stranded. UNLV responded with an early run after Bri Williams singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly. The Rebels extended their lead in the second inning with home runs from Mantha Hatzenbeller and Williams, making it difficult for SDSU to catch up. Ava Schaffel came into pitch for San Diego State after Williams’ homer and managed to stop further scoring that inning.

SDSU got on the scoreboard in the third when Emma French singled and pinch runner Mia Rodriguez eventually scored off a hit from Macario. Despite this effort, UNLV continued to add runs, including another RBI from Williams in the fourth and a solo home run by Keyannah Chavez in the fifth.

The Aztecs made several attempts at a comeback, loading the bases multiple times but only managing additional runs through sacrifices and doubles late in the game. Emma French stood out by reaching base in all her plate appearances during this series after entering with a .212 batting average.

San Diego State will conclude its series against UNLV at noon on Sunday, with coverage available via Mountain West Network.
