San Diego softball lost 3-2 to Idaho State in the second game of a Friday doubleheader at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex on March 13. The Toreros rallied in the seventh inning but were unable to overcome Idaho State’s lead.

The matchup saw Kaitlyn Bartlow start for San Diego, holding Idaho State scoreless early and striking out three batters over 4.2 innings. Idaho State managed to score single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings, each time with an RBI single, building a 3-0 advantage. Alex Riggs relieved Bartlow and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings with one strikeout, keeping San Diego within reach as the game entered its final frame.

San Diego’s offense came alive with two outs in the seventh inning. Emily Taylor began the rally with a pinch-hit single after working through a full count. Kaitlyn Wynia followed with a single that advanced Taylor to third base. Michelle Delgado then singled through the right side, scoring Taylor and putting San Diego on the board at 3-1. Mallory Axline added another run with a single up the middle, narrowing the deficit to one run as Wynia scored.

With runners on base and momentum building, Taylor Johnson came up to bat but was unable to drive in the tying run as Idaho State secured the final out and sealed their victory.

San Diego is scheduled to conclude its series against Idaho State tomorrow at noon at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex.
