The San Diego Toreros defeated Idaho State 5-3 on March 14 in the final game of their softball series at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex.

The win was secured by a strong fourth inning, where the Toreros hit two home runs and scored four runs to overcome a deficit. This result brings the team’s record to 12 wins and 14 losses for the season.

Janae Combs opened the scoring for San Diego with a solo home run in the second inning, which stood after an Idaho State challenge. Idaho State responded with one run in the third and two more in the fourth, taking a temporary lead. The momentum shifted when Taylor Johnson hit a solo home run to start the bottom of the fourth. After Hailey Mulligan singled and Kaylee Oh reached base on an error, freshman Abrielle Diaz hit a three-run home run that gave San Diego a lead they would not relinquish.

Pitcher Alex Riggs started for San Diego, striking out two batters over just over two innings before Kaitlyn Bartlow took over and earned the win. Charlie Johnson pitched three scoreless innings to close out the game and earn a save.

Looking ahead, San Diego will travel to Sacramento for a three-game series against Sac State Hornets this weekend. The first game is scheduled as part of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium, beginning at noon.
