Rep. Scott Peters, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 50th district since 2013, has recently highlighted legislative efforts and regional issues through a series of posts on his social media account.
On March 11, 2026, Peters announced a legislative proposal regarding Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding: “I have a bill that would allow the DHS Secretary (no matter who that is) to use existing funding from the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” to keep TSA staffed and paid while we negotiate much-needed reforms to ICE. Federal employees and travelers shouldn’t pay the price for”.
The following day, March 12, Peters addressed environmental concerns in his region: “The cross-border sewage crisis has inflicted harm on our region for years. Learn more about why and what we’re doing to fix it in the first episode of my new podcast, 72 & Sunny. Watch the full episode on my congressional youtube page or most podcast platforms!”.
On March 13, Peters discussed ongoing challenges faced by Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees during a government shutdown: “Yesterday, I talked with Nyrine from AFGE TSA Local 1260 about what TSA employees are feeling as the DHS shutdown reaches day 27. Some still haven’t received back pay from last year’s shutdown and they’ll now miss another paycheck tomorrow, not to mention long lines and flight”.
Peters’ recent posts reflect both national legislative priorities—such as maintaining staffing at federal agencies during funding disputes—and local environmental issues impacting southern California communities.
Background information shows that Scott Peters succeeded Brian Bilbray in Congress in 2013 and has served continuously since then. Born in Springfield, Ohio in 1958, Peters is currently based in San Diego. He graduated from Duke University with a BA in 1980 and earned his JD from New York University in 1984.
