Rep. Scott Peters, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 50th district since 2013, shared reflections and updates on social media in early March 2026, addressing civil rights history, community service efforts, and safety guidance for Americans abroad.
On March 8, 2026, Peters marked the anniversary of a pivotal moment in American civil rights history. In his post he stated: “On the 61st anniversary of Bloody Sunday, I’m reflecting on the legacy of so many civil rights icons who faced hatred and violence in their pursuit of the right to use their voice at the ballot box. I will always work to protect this fundamental cornerstone of our democracy.”
Later that day, Peters highlighted local volunteer work in San Diego County: “It was great to volunteer with Meals on Wheels this week. They care for roughly 2,000 seniors and disabled veterans in San Diego County every year, delivering food and checking in on our neighbors. Thank you to the staff and volunteers who power this important service! https://t.co/6wbyvJtPVm” The organization provides meals and support for seniors and disabled veterans throughout the region.
On March 10, Peters issued a public safety message directed at Americans overseas: “I urge Americans currently in the Middle East to remain up-to-date on the latest security information to stay safe. Here are some helpful resources and I’ll share more information as we learn more. https://t.co/Fcxjt2Azbd”
Peters has served as a congressional representative from California since replacing Brian Bilbray in 2013. Born in Springfield, Ohio in 1958, Peters is now 64 years old and resides in San Diego. He graduated from Duke University with a BA in 1980 before earning a JD from New York University School of Law in 1984.
