Delta Dental, a dental insurance provider, launched a campaign to help support the San Diego Food Bank in December.
The insurance provider created the campaign to double the donations that the nonprofit receives.
"The San Diego Food Bank is grateful to Delta Dental for reaching out to offer their support during the pandemic, especially when the demand for our services is the highest we have seen in our 44-year history," Food Bank President and CEO James Floros said in a release.
As COVID-19 made its way to the community in mid-March, the San Diego Food Bank and the North County Food Bank chapter saw their client base of 350,000 people needing assistance soar to almost 600,000.
"Typically, the Food Bank is able to leverage every dollar into five meals; however, with the help of Delta Dental's matching gift, we were able to double the number of meals one dollar provides to families here in San Diego County from five to 10," Floros said.
