San Diego County officials have announced a transition plan for over 800 households currently participating in the Emergency Temporary Lodging Program. The program was established to provide temporary housing for individuals displaced by recent floods in January.
According to the County, efforts are being made to assist participants in applying for FEMA aid, with more than 400 individuals yet to apply. As of March 29, 169 households have not responded to outreach efforts.
In order to facilitate the transition process, the County will be categorizing participants based on their eligibility and specific circumstances. Some households will need to leave the program within seven days if they have not registered for FEMA aid, violated program rules, or failed to provide documentation of flood impact.
For those who have received approval for FEMA assistance, financial support is already being distributed to aid in home repairs or finding alternative accommodations. The County is working closely with individuals to ensure a smooth transition out of the temporary lodging program by the designated end date of May 11.
To provide additional support, resource packets containing information on mental health services, volunteer support, and food assistance will be distributed to all participants. The goal is to connect individuals with the necessary resources to secure more permanent housing arrangements.
For further inquiries regarding eligibility for FEMA assistance, participants are encouraged to contact the County Disaster Service Workers at 858-715-2255.
The transition plan aims to ensure a seamless move for all program participants as they prepare to exit the Emergency Temporary Lodging Program and find stable housing solutions by the program's end date.
