San Diego County News Center reports that the County’s Housing and Community Development Services is seeking public input to inform its upcoming five-year Consolidated Plan. The department annually receives approximately $14 million in entitlement funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for projects aimed at supporting affordable housing and community improvements.
The new plan will cover four entitlement grant programs, setting goals for the period from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2030. Previous projects funded by these grants include affordable housing initiatives, home repair and first-time homebuyer programs, construction of new sidewalks and accessible ramps, development of neighborhood parks, and support services such as food assistance.
David Estrella, director of the County’s Housing and Community Development Services, emphasized the importance of community feedback: “Knowing what the community wants and needs is key in our planning process as we look to leverage every federal dollar to elevate our communities and provide needed resources.”
Community input along with regional data will shape the goals and priorities for the five-year plan. The plan will detail strategies, goals, actions, activities, and specific federal funding allocations to address identified needs.
To gather this input, the County has organized a comprehensive outreach program. The public can learn more and provide their feedback through Engage San Diego County. Additionally, there are ten in-person events scheduled for direct feedback opportunities and two virtual presentations planned between June 17 and July 31.
For further information on engagement opportunities, residents are encouraged to visit Engage San Diego or the San Diego County Engagement Center.
