Tuesday, April 8, marks the last opportunity for eligible voters to participate in the special primary election for San Diego County's First Supervisorial District. Voting centers and ballot drop boxes will be available until the end of the day to accommodate voters.

Monday, April 7, was the final day for early voting. Eligible voters could cast their ballots from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at seven designated vote centers or 29 official ballot drop boxes across the district.

On April 8, the Registrar’s office and six additional vote centers will join the existing ones, making a total of 13 vote centers accessible from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters in line by 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote, though no one is permitted to join the line after that time.

The elected individual will fill the current vacancy until January 2029. If no candidate secures a majority, the two leading candidates will proceed to the special general election on July 1. Voting is limited to district residents.

District 1 stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Otay and San Miguel mountains to the east, and from Barrio Logan north to the Mexico border south. It encompasses Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, and parts of San Diego, including Barrio Logan, East Village, and Golden Hill, as well as unincorporated areas like Bonita and East Otay Mesa.

Residents unsure of their district's boundaries can verify their location at sdvote.com. Those unregistered may conditionally register and vote provisionally at any voting center or the Registrar’s office through April 8.

Vote centers have replaced traditional polling places, offering more services. Voters use ballot marking devices to make selections on touch screens, print, review, and submit ballots for counting. These devices do not store or count votes.

Campaigning or electioneering within 100 feet of a voting center or ballot drop box is prohibited, as is disseminating information about candidates, circulating petitions, or similar activities.

Voters who have mailed their ballots can track receipt through the Registrar's website, sdvote.com. More information about the election process is available online or by calling (858) 565-5800 or (800) 696-0136.
