San Diego County is organizing an open house to inform residents about the county's budget and its impact on the community. The event will take place on April 17 at the County Operations Center in Kearny Mesa. Residents are invited to drop in any time between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

This event is intended to educate the public about the budget process, provide an opportunity to ask questions, and gather feedback. Attendees will have the chance to see various county services in action. Special activities for children include a meet-and-greet with a park ranger and a live hawk, as well as demonstrations involving a bomb squad vehicle and other emergency vehicles.

This open house is the first of three events aimed at enhancing public understanding of the budget. The second open house will follow the release of the Chief Administrative Officer’s recommended budget on May 1, occurring on May 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A third session will be held virtually on Zoom at 5:30 p.m. on May 28.

Information about attending the April 17 event and registering for language and accessibility services can be found on Engage San Diego County. Future budget hearings are scheduled at the Board of Supervisors’ sessions on June 3 at 9 a.m. and June 9 at 5:30 p.m. The Board plans to deliberate and adopt the budget on June 24, with the final budget taking effect on July 1.
