Davis McDowell led the UC San Diego Tritons men’s golf team at a recent tournament in Fresno, California, finishing first with a score of five under par (69-68–137). Nathan Tseng also placed in the top ten, tying for seventh at even par (71-71–142). Francis Catalano and Justin Gill both tied for 21st place with scores of three over par (74-71–145). Hanjie Yu finished 54th at nine over par (76-75–151), while Leo Cheng, competing as an individual, ended at 14 over par (76-80–156) and did not contribute to the team’s overall score.
The Tritons will compete next week at the R.E. Lamkin Invitational hosted by San Diego State. The event is scheduled for March 9-10 at San Diego Country Club.
According to UC San Diego Athletics, “After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of the Big West Conference in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions III and II and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 84 Tritons have earned Academic All-America honors, while 38 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships. UC San Diego scholar-athletes exemplify the academic ideals of one of the world’s preeminent institutions, graduating at an average rate of 91 percent, one of the highest rates among institutions at all divisions.”
