UC San Diego defeated CSUN, 6-4, in a Big West baseball game on March 14, taking the series over the Matadors at Hiegert Field. The Tritons improved to a 6-10 overall record and 2-0 in conference play, while CSUN fell to 10-8 overall and 2-3 in the Big West.

The outcome was decided in the eighth inning when UC San Diego scored three runs to break a tie. Anthony Potestio hit his second home run of the game, followed by Gabe Camacho’s infield single and J.C. Allen’s two-run homer. In the ninth inning, Trevian Martinez tripled and scored on a wild pitch, extending the lead to four runs before CSUN narrowed the gap with two runs of their own.

Connor Etnire pitched the final three innings for UC San Diego, striking out five without issuing a walk and earning his third win of the season. Nic Gregson started for the Tritons, pitching six innings with four strikeouts and no walks allowed by any Triton pitcher during the game.

Potestio’s two home runs were his first of the season and brought his career total as a Triton to nine. Allen is now tied for second on the team with four home runs this year. Martinez’s triple was UC San Diego’s first of the season.
