UC San Diego women’s basketball will play against UC Davis in the Big West Tournament semifinal on March 13, following a season where the Tritons secured a share of their first-ever Big West regular season title. The game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Lee’s Family Forum in Henderson, Nevada, and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
This matchup is significant as it marks UC San Diego’s attempt to defend its 2025 Big West Championship. Last season, the Tritons made history by sending both their men’s and women’s teams to the NCAA Tournament during their first year of Division I eligibility. The team defeated Cal Poly and Hawai’i before winning the championship over UC Davis.
The Tritons enter the semifinal with a record of 22-8 overall and 17-3 in conference play, while UC Davis holds a record of 23-9 overall and 15-5 in conference games. In their last meeting on February 12, UC Davis won after three overtimes. Six Tritons received All-Big West honors this season, including Erin Condron and Makayla Rose on the First Team. Rose was also named Defensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive time.
Several program records were set this year by UC San Diego players: Makayla Rose broke the single-season steals record with 96; Dymonique Maxie set new marks for assists; and Erin Condron established records for rebounds and blocks. The team leads the conference in field goal percentage (42.9%) and ranks high nationally in turnover margin and steals per game.
The roster features experienced returners like Gracie Gallegos, Sabrina Ma, and Erin Condron alongside six newcomers, including transfers Rose and Maxie. Off the court, six scholar-athletes were named to the Big West Winter All-Academic Team.
Looking ahead, UC San Diego has accepted an invitation to join the West Coast Conference starting July 2027. Andy Fee was recently appointed as Director of Athletics to help guide this transition.
