The County of San Diego and CAL FIRE are providing free sand and bags to help unincorporated residents mitigate the impact of flooding from future storms.
“Rain can cause flooding and erosion, particularly in areas that aren’t covered by plants, landscaping, grass and trees,” states a post on the County of San Diego News Center website. “Rain runoff can sweep topsoil, mud, plant material and debris off land and downstream where it can damage homes, clog culverts and storm drains, and flood and damage roadways.”
Residents who live in the unincorporated areas can pick up sand and bags at Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Station in Bonita, Fire Station #47 in Boulevard, De Luz Fire Station #16 and Pala Mesa Fire Station #4 in Fallbrook, Fire Station #30 in Dulzura, Julian-Cuyamaca Fire Station #56 in Julian, Fire Station #79 in Palomar Mountain, Fire Station #82 in Ramona, Rincon Fire Station #70 in Pauma Valley, Fire Station #2 in Valley Center, and Sunshine Summit Fire Station #59 in Warner Springs.
Bags alone will be available at Fire Station #17 in Alpine, Ocotillo Wells Fire Station #54 in Borrego Springs, Fire Station #40 and Lake Morena Fire Station #42 in Campo, Fire Station #45 in Descanso, Harbison Canyon Fire Station #24 in El Cajon, Deer Springs Fire Station #13 and Miller Fire Station #15 in Escondido, De Luz Fire Station #16 in Fallbrook, Fire Station #43 in Jacumba, Deerhorn Fire Station #37 in Jamul, Fire Station #49 in Mt. Laguna, Fire Station #44 in Pine Valley, Fire Station #31 in Portrero, Fire Station #58 in Ranchita, Deer Springs Fire Station #12 in San Marcos, Fire Station #84 in San Pasqual, and Fire Station #52 in Warner Springs.
Residents are advised to bring a shovel to fill bags and to call fire stations to check availability of supplies.
