San Diego County officials and community members initiated the construction of a new library branch in Casa de Oro on Wednesday. This development aims to address the increasing demands of the local community.
The new facility will be situated at 9610 Campo Road in Spring Valley, close to Spring Valley Academy. The current library is housed in a leased space covering 6,000 square feet. The upcoming structure will expand to 12,000 square feet and include a Community Room measuring approximately 2,000 square feet. In 2022, the branch welcomed nearly 30,000 visitors who checked out over 63,250 items.
The new library will adhere to Zero Net Energy and LEED Gold standards. Its solar panels are designed to generate all the electricity required for its operations.
Community input was gathered by the County from residents, businesses, and other stakeholders regarding their needs for the library. This feedback influenced the design and features planned for this location. County staff will continue engaging with the community as future design concepts are developed and modifications occur.
The project aligns with the library’s mission "to celebrate our communities and help you create your own story." It is funded by San Diego County. Construction is scheduled to start in winter 2025, with an opening planned for spring 2026.
