The City of Carlsbad in California has reported that they are bolstering their support of businesses in complying with COVID-19 restrictions.
The decision was made by the City Council in mid January and will help to improve communication between the city and business owners that are seeking to remain profitable amid a challenging set of circumstances.
The city will begin to tell businesses that have been given permission to take their operations outside onto city property — such as streets and sidewalks — or will inform them of violations of terms that may put the public’s health in danger. Should terms not be heeded, the city reserves the rights to suspend or cancel the businesses’ operations and even fine them.
Larger corporations will also be held to the same standards.
For businesses that are dedicated to following the law, the City Council will be happy to support them with a new city loan program, as well as marketing help. Microgrants and rent relief programs are also being facilitated by the City Council staff.
The City of Carlsbad plans to harness the power of the state government, including the governor, legislature, legislative representatives, county representatives or local agencies as they seek to respond to the pandemic with proportional attention and efforts.
The low and no-interest loan programs offered by the City of Carlsbad will undergo some changes in execution, in order to ensure that all organizations in need are able to access the funds.
According to Carslbad’s website, “Businesses may now receive both types of city loans, a small business microloan and a small business recovery loan. The maximum amount of the small business recovery loan has been increased from $25,000 to $50,000. Businesses with gross receipts or revenues up to $5 million may now be eligible for the small business recovery loans. Previously the limit was $3 million. This change will allow around 150 additional businesses to become eligible, if they also meet other criteria.”
Should a business be interested in receiving a city loan, they must show that they are in complete compliance with the health measures in place.
