California Legislative Republican Leaders have announced budget action to address the rise of illegal and violent protests on state colleges and universities in the state. Senate Minority Leader Jones (R-San Diego) and Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (R-Yuba City) have proposed measures to tackle the issue effectively.

Leader Jones emphasized, "Violence and illegal activity of any kind is NOT protected by the First Amendment." He stressed the need for university administrations to ensure campus safety and prevent unlawful activities. Leader Jones also highlighted the importance of maintaining a secure learning environment for students and expressed concern over the misuse of taxpayer funding by administrations that fail to uphold law and order on campus.

Echoing similar sentiments, Leader Gallagher stated, “All Californians have a right to express their views but that right ends when you carry out acts of violence, destruction of property, and trample upon the right of others, the rights of fellow students to learn.” He criticized school administrations for allowing protests to escalate into lawlessness and violence without taking adequate action to address the situation.

The Republican Leaders are united in their condemnation of violent protests that have disrupted college and university campuses not only in California but across the United States. They have called for accountability from both school officials and students involved in illegal activities, emphasizing the need to restore order and prioritize the safety of students and faculty members.

The proposed budget action aims to revoke or reduce state funding for administrations that fail to maintain campus safety and prevent unlawful activities, as well as cut state-funded grants for students found guilty and suspended for their involvement in illegal acts. The leaders are determined to address the ongoing challenges posed by illegal protests on college campuses and ensure that the rights of all individuals are respected and protected.
