San Diego County News Center reports that the County Library offers a variety of services beyond traditional book lending. Residents can take advantage of numerous educational and recreational opportunities, all available with a library card.

One significant service is the ability to earn an accredited high school diploma through Library High School. This program is open to adults aged 19 and older, providing both a diploma and career certificates at no cost. Interested individuals can start by completing an online readiness survey on the library's website.

For those preparing for U.S. citizenship, the library collaborates with Jewish Family Service of San Diego to offer free 10-week citizenship classes. These classes will run from June 18 to August 22 at four different branches. Registration is required via phone or email.

The Discover & Go program allows library cardholders to access free passes and discounts for local museums, sporting events, and recreational activities. Passes can be reserved online using a library card number.

Additionally, the Libby app provides access to over 200,000 electronic books, magazines, newspapers, and audiobooks in multiple languages. Users can read or listen to materials on their mobile devices.

Library patrons interested in genealogy can use My Heritage Library edition for free to explore historical records from around the world. The County Library also links users to resources dedicated to African American ancestry.

Language learning is facilitated through Rosetta Stone, available at no charge via the e-library page on the County Library’s website. Users must follow specific instructions to set up their accounts and access lessons.

Gardening enthusiasts can benefit from the Seeds and Sustainability program offered at eleven branch libraries. Patrons can obtain seeds for various plants without needing to return them.

The County Library hosts numerous cultural events and arts programs ranging from Mah Jongg games and Spanish classes to Ballet Folklórico Dance lessons and traditional Japanese music performances.

Volunteer opportunities are available for adults and teens across all branches. Adults undergo background checks before being matched with suitable roles by library staff.

For more information about these services or other inquiries, residents are encouraged to visit the County Library’s website.
