The Board of Supervisors will hold a second public hearing at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 6 at the County Administration Center. This evening hearing provides an additional opportunity for public attendance if the morning session on June 4 was inconvenient.

The recommended budget, released on May 2, totals $8.48 billion, reflecting an increase of $317.7 million or 3.9% over the 2023-24 adopted budget. The proposal includes approximately 72 new positions, marking a 0.4% increase in staffing.

The budget aims to maintain core services and allocate funds to support key priorities such as behavioral health, homelessness, affordable housing, roads, justice reform, and environmental sustainability. The overall increase is smaller than in previous years, limiting staffing growth and reducing capital project expenditures.

San Diego County offers numerous services across the region including food and restaurant inspections, beach and bay water testing, elections, social services, health programs, foster care, adult protective services among others. Additionally, for residents outside the region’s 18 cities in unincorporated areas, the County provides city-type services such as law enforcement and fire protection along with maintenance of parks, libraries and roads.

County staff prepared the budget using community input collected throughout the year alongside an equity assessment to evaluate potential impacts on vulnerable populations and other data sources.

Approximately half of the County’s budget funding comes from federal, state or other government sources. With the Governor's recent release of a revised state budget under review by county staff for potential impacts and necessary revisions pending finalization.

A revised recommended budget will be released on June 13 with final approval expected by the Board of Supervisors on June 25. The new budget will take effect starting July 1.
