Senator Brian Jones from San Diego is inviting residents of Senate District 40 to nominate veterans for the 2024 Veteran of the Year Award. This award aims to honor veterans who have shown exceptional commitment to community service, support for fellow veterans, and overall excellence.

A panel will evaluate all nominations and select a Veteran of the Year along with additional honorees. To be eligible, nominees must be veterans of one of the six branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, including Reserve or National Guard, or United States Merchant Marines, with an honorable discharge. They must also reside within the 40th California State Senate District.

Nominations can be submitted through Senator Jones's website using a designated form. The deadline for submission is Monday, October 14, 2024, at 5:00 PM. In November, Senator Jones will host a "Veteran of the Year Reception" to recognize the winner and other honorees.

Senator Jones stated that this award acknowledges "the brave men and women who answered the call of duty to serve our nation in the U.S. Armed Forces." He emphasized their continued impact on communities upon returning home as a legacy worth celebrating.
