Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones has expressed strong disapproval of the recent legislative actions by Governor Gavin Newsom and other Democratic lawmakers. This criticism follows the signing of Assembly Bill 2x-1 into law during the second extraordinary session.

Jones stated, "Lame Duck Governor Newsom and progressive Democrat lawmakers are working overtime to increase costs at the pump and make gasoline so expensive that Californians are forced into an electric car." He emphasized that AB2x-1 was pushed through hastily, just before an election, without undergoing the usual legislative scrutiny. According to Jones, there was bipartisan opposition to this bill as some Democrats opposed what he described as a publicity move by Newsom.

The bill aims to reduce gasoline supply in the market, which Jones argues will inevitably lead to higher prices. He labeled it as a "planned gasoline shortage disaster" orchestrated by Progressive California Democrats.

Jones also criticized an impending decision by the Air Resources Board, suggesting it will further increase gas prices by 65 cents per gallon after the upcoming election. He concluded with accusations that Newsom's administration is benefiting financially from these price hikes at the expense of Californians.

The new legislation is set to become effective on January 13, 2025.
