San Diego County's Health and Human Services Agency has secured a $125,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to enhance its Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Program. This initiative aims to educate pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers on safe road-sharing practices. The program will be active until September 2025.

Barbara Jiménez, Community Operations Officer at the County Health and Human Services Agency, expressed enthusiasm about the grant: “We are excited to receive this grant, it will allow us to significantly expand our bicycle and pedestrian safety program.” She emphasized the program's focus on education and awareness to reduce crashes and injuries. Jiménez added that the ultimate goal is to create neighborhoods that are walkable and bike-friendly, ensuring safe travel for all.

The grant will fund activities centered around bicycle and pedestrian safety. OTS Director Barbara Rooney highlighted the importance of such initiatives: “The safety of people walking and biking on our roads is a top priority for our office.” She stressed investing in efforts that protect non-motorized road users contributes to establishing a strong traffic safety culture across California.

This funding comes from a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
