San Diego County is collaborating with CAL FIRE and the state of California to support homeowners in fire-prone unincorporated areas. The initiative involves retrofitting homes with ember-resistant materials and creating defensible spaces to enhance protection against wildfires. This effort is part of the California Wildfire Mitigation Program, a pilot project aimed at bolstering community resilience in San Diego during wildfire incidents.
The program's primary objective is to "harden" homes, making them less susceptible to the dangers posed by wildfires. By utilizing advanced materials and strategic landscaping, residents can better safeguard their properties from potential fire damage.
In related news, San Diego County has also been granted funds to improve data reporting on traffic fatalities and run a program targeting high-risk DUI offenders. Additionally, efforts are underway to promote job equity for individuals who have been formerly incarcerated.
The county recently engaged with over 2,100 residents regarding the impact of sewage from the Tijuana River Valley. Furthermore, National Adoption Month was celebrated with 31 families participating in adoption events.
The importance of partnerships was highlighted during the Live Well Advance event, which underscores collaboration as a key component in addressing various community challenges.
