County officials and community members recently gathered to launch a new park project in Valley Center at Butterfield Trails County Park. The event included a tour of the 60-acre property, tree planting, and various activities.

Last year, the County Board of Supervisors approved the acquisition of Butterfield Trails Ranch to establish a public park for the Valley Center community. The land is now under the management of the County’s Department of Parks and Recreation.

Funds were allocated earlier this year for site inspection and community outreach to determine how best to utilize the park and address community needs. "The County of San Diego builds parks in the vision of the community. We take pride in building parks that reflect the essence of each community," stated Jake Enriquez, Region Manager at County of San Diego.

The purchase was facilitated by a $2 million donation from The Manuel Arango Foundation. Laurie Gonzalez, Rincon Tribal Council Member, expressed gratitude: "We thank you for investing in this charming Valley Center community that will last for generations. Valley Center families are forever blessed with your kindness."

In upcoming months, Parks and Recreation plans to engage with residents through public meetings, surveys, and other events to gather input on amenities and designs for the park. More information can be found at sdparks.org.
