Registered voters in San Diego County's First Supervisorial District can now return their mail ballots for the April 8 special primary election using one of 29 official ballot drop boxes. These drop boxes are available throughout the district starting Tuesday, March 11.
Mail ballots are being sent to the district's 370,000 registered voters this week, with some having already received theirs over the weekend. The winner of this election will occupy the vacant seat until January 2029. If no candidate secures a majority on April 8, a special general election will occur on July 1 between the top two candidates. Only residents of District 1 are eligible to vote.
District 1 spans from the Pacific Ocean to the Otay and San Miguel mountains and includes cities such as Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, and parts of San Diego like Barrio Logan and East Village. Unincorporated areas like Bonita and Lincoln Acres are also part of the district.
The Registrar’s official ballot drop boxes feature red, white, and blue colors with the Registrar’s logo and County seal. They are made from stainless steel designed to prevent damage or unauthorized access with features like double-locking doors.
Voters should mark their ballots, seal them in a return envelope with a signature, and either mail them or place them in one of these drop boxes by April 8 at 8 p.m. A list of locations is available at sdvote.com.
Early voting has started at the Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa from Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Starting March 29, seven vote centers will open daily for District 1 voters until April 8 when they expand to thirteen centers operating from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
