San Diego police officers have detained a suspect and are holding him in custody following reports of a drive-by shooting.
According to The San Diego Tribune, police officers received a call about a possible shooting in the Scripps Ranch community of San Diego shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 11. Officers were called to a home on Scripps Westview Parkway, a residential street off Scripps Ranch Boulevard directly east of Interstate Highway 15.
The witness says he was in his vehicle when a man in another vehicle drove by and opened fire on him. Another witness added that he recognized the shooter and told police the location of the gunman's home.
San Diego police officer Tony Martinez told The San Diego Tribune that the victim was not injured, but confirms that a police investigation found bullet holes in the victim's vehicle.
Information from the witness led the officers to a complex of apartment homes less than a half-mile away on Scripps Vista Way.
Officers then surrounded the home in an effort to cut off the suspect's escape and began efforts to make contact with the suspected shooter. Along with officers on the ground, a helicopter was launched to make efforts to persuade the suspect to turn himself into custody peacefully, CBS 8 News reported.
It was later learned that the suspect was not at home, but showed up at the building later and was taken into custody without incident, reported FOX 5 News.
SWAT units were not called in and only patrol officers were involved.
Helicopter footage from NBC7 News at 3 p.m. showed at least two other people in handcuffs sitting outside a home on the curb with officers with guns drawn and pointed at the home. It's unclear if those people were suspects in the shooting or how many people were believed to be involved in the incident.
