Of the 20,791 people living in South El Monte city in 2020, 49.2 percent (10,219) were women and 50.8 percent (10,572) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the San Diego City Wire.

Males 18 and over outnumbered females in the same age group by 320. In the 65 and over age range, there were 1,460 females and 1,207 males.
