San Diego County's agriculture industry has faced both successes and challenges as highlighted in recent reports and declarations. In a recent statement, an important reminder was shared, "The biggest one is—do not disturb them. And if they’re already disturbed, move away to a safer location!"

Highlighting a significant concern, the California Department of Food and Agriculture announced a citrus quarantine in Valley Center due to the detection of the citrus disease Huanglongbing. This declaration came after the disease was found in five orange trees during routine inspections.

On a more positive note, the County's 2022 Crop Report revealed a boost in production value, reaching $1.78 billion, marking a continued upward trend in recent years. This success underscores the resilience and growth of the agricultural sector in the region.

In response to the challenges posed by disasters and evacuations, a new Agricultural and Livestock Pass (Ag Pass) program has been introduced to aid commercial livestock operations and farmers in returning to care for their animals and crops promptly.

Expanding on citrus concerns, a separate citrus quarantine was declared in a 95 square-mile area of Rancho Bernardo following the detection of a potentially threatening citrus tree disease during routine inspections.

As the holiday season approaches, a crucial message is emphasized, "Whatever your plans, don’t pack a pest!" This serves as a reminder to prevent the spread of pests through gift shipments and travels.

Despite facing hurdles, San Diego County's agricultural sector showcased resilience with a new leading crop and increased crop values. However, the latest Crop Report also indicated a slight decrease in total crop and commodity values, marking the first decline in several years.

In conclusion, San Diego County's agriculture industry continues to navigate challenges while demonstrating growth and adaptability in the face of adversities.
