A new affordable housing community has opened its doors in the heart of City Heights, bringing much-needed housing options to the area. City Heights Place and City Heights Plaza Del Sol, two neighboring buildings, now offer 135 new single-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom apartment homes. According to the San Diego County News Center, the development was celebrated with a grand opening event.

The affordable housing project was made possible through a collaboration of public and private partnerships. The County, the City of San Diego, Wakeland Housing, Price Philanthropies, and other organizations joined forces to bring this initiative to fruition. Notably, the County contributed $3 million from the Innovative Housing Trust Fund towards City Heights Place.

Speaking about the County's commitment to affordable housing, it was highlighted that since 2017, over $305 million has been invested in affordable housing initiatives. This investment has already resulted in the opening of more than 2,100 units, with an additional 3,286 units in progress. Once all these developments are complete, the County's support will provide homes for nearly 21,000 individuals, with the total number of affordable units reaching over 9,500.

The opening of City Heights Place and City Heights Plaza Del Sol aligns with the County's Housing Blueprint, which serves as a guide and ongoing response to the regional housing crisis. This new addition to the City Heights neighborhood is expected to make a significant impact on the community by offering affordable rents for families making 30-60 percent of the area median income.

The completion of this affordable housing project not only addresses the immediate housing needs of City Heights families but also represents a larger effort by the County to increase access to affordable housing options throughout the region.
