County residents had the opportunity to gain insights into the local government’s budget and services at an open house event in Kearny Mesa on Thursday. Although the Chief Administrative Officer’s recommended budget will not be available until May 1, county staff were present to discuss the various services provided, the sources of funding, and the process behind the budget's development and adoption.
The event allowed attendees to engage with county representatives and offer feedback on the services provided. The county’s reach includes managing services in unincorporated areas usually handled by city governments, and some cities also contract with the county for these services.
Activities were available for families, including interactions with adoptable animals, witnessing a K9 demonstration, and viewing emergency vehicles up close. A live owl was also part of the event.
Another open house is scheduled at the County Operations Center on May 22 from 5 to 7 p.m., while a virtual community budget meeting is planned for May 28 at 5:30 p.m. Information on registering for these events and requesting language or accessibility services will be available on Engage San Diego.
"County residents had a chance to ask questions and learn about the role of the County budget in their daily lives," stated the release. More details regarding future events can be communicated through official contacts or platforms.
