The County of San Diego’s Edgemoor Skilled Nursing Facility has been recognized as one of the top nursing homes in California by Newsweek magazine. Edgemoor was ranked as the No. 2 facility in California for Newsweek’s America’s Best Nursing Homes 2025. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Edgemoor has been among the state’s top three nursing homes.
“Critically ill and injured adult patients in need of long-term support get top-tier care at Edgemoor,” said Dr. Luke Bergmann, PhD, Director of County Behavioral Health Services (BHS). “We are honored that the dedication and commitment of our staff have been recognized as among the best in California for six consecutive years.”
The ranking was based on four key factors: performance data, medical professional recommendations, accreditations, and resident satisfaction.
Edgemoor provides patients with 24-hour skilled nursing care, physical rehabilitation, as well as recreational, occupational and speech therapy. Patients at the 192-bed facility require specialized interventions from highly trained staff.
Edgemoor is a five-star facility, having earned the top rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for quality services.
“We are incredibly proud of this achievement,” said Erin Chancler, Edgemoor’s Administrator. “It reflects the dedication, commitment, and hard work of our staff, as well as the invaluable support we receive from County, HHSA, and BHS leadership.”
In 2017, Edgemoor received the Gold Excellence in Quality Award presented by the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living. Edgemoor is currently one of only 55 skilled nursing facilities in the country to be an active recipient of this honor.
