Two re-elected San Diego County supervisors were sworn into office on Monday at the County Administration Center Board Chamber. Vice Chair Terra Lawson-Remer from District 3 and Supervisor Joel Anderson from District 2 both secured a second term in the November election.
Vice Chair Lawson-Remer highlighted the Board's achievements in assisting San Diegans, acknowledging the challenges faced but expressing optimism for continued progress. “I’ve been a researcher, a rabble-rouser, an educator, an attorney, an organizer, an author – and after gathering a lot of empirical data during my first term, I can say with confidence that being a County supervisor is one of the most rewarding, challenging, sometimes very surprising, and always fulfilling jobs that I’ve ever had,” said Supervisor Lawson-Remer. “And it’s so worth it. Because together, we’ve been creating the change you sent me here to accomplish.”
Supervisor Joel Anderson reflected on his long-standing service to East County prior to his role as County Supervisor. “It’s an honor and a privilege to represent my district and I love my job…,” he stated. “They’ve trusted me for 22 years to represent them and it’s an incredible privilege, and I’m so delighted to do it for another four years.”
Chairwoman Nora Vargas also won her second term but announced she would end her tenure as supervisor for District 1 with her first term concluding at noon on Monday.
The process to fill Vargas's position will be determined according to San Diego County Charter Section 401.4 and Board Policy A-39. The Board of Supervisors is required to meet within seven business days of the vacancy to decide whether to fill it by appointment or call a special election. A special meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14 at noon.
The county emphasized its commitment to serving residents during this transition period.
