The Board of Supervisors has officially announced a special primary election for the First Supervisorial District, scheduled for April 8. This decision follows the vacancy left by the former supervisor who ended her tenure on January 6. The election will determine who will fill the seat until January 2029.
Residents of District 1, numbering over 376,000 voters, will receive their ballots by mail during the week of March 10. These packets will include an "I Voted" sticker and essential voting information. If no candidate secures a majority in the primary election, a special general election is planned for July 1, featuring the top two candidates.
District 1 covers areas from the Pacific Ocean to the Otay and San Miguel mountains and includes cities such as Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, and parts of San Diego like Barrio Logan and East Village. Unincorporated areas like Bonita and Spring Valley are also part of this district.
To confirm residency in District 1, voters can visit sdvote.com. Early voting begins on March 10 at the Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa with operating hours from Monday to Friday. The Registrar recommends mail-in voting for convenience; ballots can be returned via mail or at any of the district's official drop boxes starting March 11.
For those preferring to vote in person, early voting is available starting March 29 at seven vote centers open daily until Election Day. On April 8, thirteen vote centers will operate from morning until evening.
