San Diego County Animal Services recently organized a pet clinic in Valley Center, assisting 100 pets and microchipping 75 of them. The event was planned before the fires in Los Angeles, highlighting the importance of disaster preparedness for pet owners.
Rachael Borelli, assistant director at County Animal Services, emphasized the need for pets to be microchipped and vaccinated. "If a pet gets separated from their family, a simple scan of a microchip could help reunite them," she said. She also noted that emergency animal shelters often require vaccination records to ensure animals can safely interact with others.
The clinic took place on Wednesday at the Valley Center Tractor Supply store and lasted four hours. Borelli remarked on the significance of the event: “That’s an area where there aren’t a lot of microchipped pets, but now there are 75 more.” Due to high demand, they exhausted their supply of microchips.
In addition to microchipping services, pet owners received free vaccines, including rabies shots. The clinic attracted residents not only from Valley Center but also from Ramona, Escondido, and Vista.
