Over 376,000 postcards are being sent to registered voters in San Diego County's First Supervisorial District, informing them of their voting options for the special primary election scheduled for April 8. The election will determine who fills the district's vacant seat until January 2029. If no candidate secures a majority vote on April 8, the top two candidates will proceed to a special general election on July 1, 2025. Only residents of the district are eligible to vote.
District 1 extends from the Pacific Ocean in the west to the Otay and San Miguel mountains in the east, covering areas from Barrio Logan in the north to the U.S./Mexico border in the south. It includes cities such as Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, National City, and parts of San Diego like Barrio Logan and East Village. Unincorporated areas like Bonita and Lincoln Acres are also part of this district.
Voters unsure about their residency within District 1 can verify it at sdvote.com. Early voting starts on March 10 at the Registrar of Voters office in Kearny Mesa, located at 5600 Overland Ave., San Diego. The office will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an emphasis on mail-in voting for convenience.
Ballots can be mailed back without postage or dropped off at any of the Registrar’s 26 official ballot drop-boxes around the district starting March 11 through Election Day. In-person early voting is available starting March 29 at seven vote centers open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., leading up to April 8 when all centers will operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
