On March 5, 2025, Peters discussed his decision to attend President Trump's speech despite feeling disrespected by the administration's actions towards Congress. In his tweet, he mentioned attending to highlight concerns over budget cuts affecting critical research. He wrote: "I debated attending the President's speech tonight given his blatant disrespect for Congress." He further explained his intention to represent San Diego's interests and support Alzheimer's research conducted by Dr. Jim Brewer at UCSD Health.
