Dr. Kelly Motadel, the County Chief Pediatric Officer, highlighted the dual nature of summer: a season for fun but also a period when preventable injuries can occur. "There are so many fun activities for children and families to enjoy together over the summer, but unfortunately this is also a time when a lot of preventable injuries can happen," Dr. Motadel stated. Over the past month, the positivity rate for COVID-19 tests has exceeded 14 percent. Consequently, the Respiratory Virus Surveillance Highlights Dashboard will now be updated weekly, as it typically is during peak respiratory virus activity from October through May.
San Diego County is waiving adoption fees for adult dogs and cats through the end of July as part of the Bissell Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” national adoption event. The initiative, which started on July 8, aims to address shelter overcrowding by making pet adoption more affordable.

This commitment follows a community-led effort that resulted in Borrego Springs joining the San Diego County Fire Protection District on July 1, 2023.
